Sitting in his office chair, a white collar job holder wonders about the monotony of his job. He goes down the memory lane and realizes how excited he was for this particular job. He wonders the importance of his studies, knowledge, learning, character etc. for the job in his hand. He ends up concluding that none of it is in fact important. He frets at the regular nature of the tasks at hand and worries what would he do if not this job. He knows that this is one of the most coveted jobs; in fact some of his peers envy his job and its benefits. He?s afraid that even a shift in the job would not make his situation better as he?d end up facing the same monotony at one point or the other in a different new job.
A lot of workers go through the above phase in their careers. Most of these people keep blaming the nature of the job and a very few end up realizing that their basic nature and behavior could be responsible for the way they feel about the particular job. I am sure such feelings, at times, become blessings for some - as most of the exemplary entrepreneurs became successful because of such feelings ? but more often than not the carriers of such feeling end up compromising on their productivity and quality of work.
Such feelings are not just harmful for the individual but end up affecting the overall productivity through out the team and thus the organization. Such feelings make an individual ask questions - to his colleague on a Monday morning ? such as:
Don?t you think this work sucks?
I can?t do this anymore how can you keep your self motivated for such a petty task?
Ah! I know you?re sticking coz? u have some obligations right?
How do you explain your petty job responsibilities to your peers?
Etc.
Asking questions is not bad. But dampening the spirit of a co-worker for work is certainly bad.
Let?s get motivated:
Break:
Is there any escape from the monotony of any job?
No.
In most of the cases the answer is a definite - No. People who?ve converted their passions as their professions even get tired of the monotony and take a break. We all know how some of the finest sportsmen of all times hanged their boots for a short period to set their priorities right.
Probably it?s just a break that you need. It?s important to take a voluntary break at the right time and re-work various options and strategies. It?s important to realize the timing.
No it?s not work, it?s you:
Most often than not, it?s not the work it?s the nature of the person which deters the productivity.
Why is it important to stay motivated for the most monotonous tasks?
Let?s just look at this question from this perspective : Probably the monotonous task at hand is the first step towards that better work. I am sure, most of the workers envy the work of their seniors but very few of the subordinates stay motivated enough to reach that level of seniority.
At times an individual?s own reasons deter him from setting up a bigger target. It?s important to realize one?s own tenacity and determination to set up any target.
Break the work, and excel:
Usually the most boring tasks of the day are the ones which are repetitive in nature. A better planned up schedule can force one to meet the daily tasks at ease. It?s important to schedule one?s entire work in such a way that it becomes a no frill work to meet all the targets.
One has to learn, understand and incorporate the word excel to keep moving at a pace. It?s important to get depressed for not reaching a set-up target.
Give yourself a small exercise at the end of the day:
At the end of the day one should realize the value addition he has done in him. After the realization, it?s important to realize the ways in which he/she could have been better. It?s equally important for one to analyze, in this exercise, the quantitative and qualitative nature of all the aspects of value addition.
In the end, the individual will realize if he/she has been undermining or over reaching his targets. By the way, one should always be in the ignorance of the clause ?OVER REACHING THE TARGETS?.
I am sure I blabbered too much. But you know that?s the way it?s with ROYAL.
