CENSUS 2011: The count starts now

altThe famous Madhuri Dixit song, “Ek Do Teen, Char Paanch... ” best describes the process of counting. Every ten years, the govt. of India sings this song to count the no. of heads in the country. This is called CENSUS. Year 2011 will witness the 15th CENSUS in the country.

The Indian Census is the most credible source of information on Demography (Population characteristics), Economic Activity, Literacy & Education, Housing & Household Amenities, Urbanization, Fertility and Mortality, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Language, Religion, Migration, Disability and many other socio-cultural and demographic data since 1872.

IIT student produces electricity from waste water!

Waste water management has been a big issue across the globe and more so in India due to the acute shortage in several places. A 23-year-old student of IIT Kharagpur has not only found a solution to this problem but has also demonstrated how to produce electricity from it.
Meet Manoj Mandelia, a student of integrated MTech at IIT Kharagpur, who has developed this product which could well be the solution that the world has been waiting for to protect earth’s resources.The product uses the concept of microbial fuel cell (MFC is a bio-electrochemical system that drives a current by mimicking bacterial interactions found in nature), which can not only treat waste water but also produce electricity in the process.

MBA Admissions: How recession has changed the game?

The recession almost ripped the sheen from the surface of an MBA degree but the recovery came into effect, just in time. While thousands losing jobs underlined the period of the downturn, B-School placement reports were another key indicator of the turmoil. Indian economy was largely resilient, but the B-Schools certainly faced the brunt of the recession. Downgrade in average salaries, extended placement weeks and unemployed students were the key evidence to the bloodbath in the MBA fraternity. Now that we are out of recession, B-Schools are still a worried lot.

Fourteen disabled students were among the 199,448 children who secured above 90 percent in the Class 12 CBSE exams. According to an official release on Friday, a total of 1,304 students with disability - 249 blind, 41 deaf, 672 physically handicapped, 46 spastic children and 296 with dyslexia - applied for the Class 12 exams this year and 1,273 appeared finally.

The extensive survey, commissioned by Zee News and DNA, was conducted by Ipsos, the world’s third-ranked research agency.
